Utility Chic: Cargo Pants

Hi friends,

I hope everyone is enjoying the week-end! Today I’m talking about the Utility Trend, and specifically cargo pants. Cargo pants certainly aren’t new and the masculine versions have actually gotten a bad rap over the years. This season we see that all cargos are not created equal. There are so many iterations ranging from casual athletic to dressier fabrications. Today’s post is about wearing them with casual pieces for the perfect balance of functionality and coolness.

Who doesn’t love a cool cargo pant? What I like best about these Sanctuary cargos is the relaxed feel, mid rise waist, and elastic bottom. The fabric is a brushed cotton with a little stretch. I’m wearing a size 27 but they run large so I’d suggest sizing down one size. I’m a sucker for olive drab green but they also come in a true khaki . Pair these wear everywhere pants with a front tucked tee and sneakers or add a belt and cropped leather jacket. My classic striped tee is a closet favorite from Saint James but there are so many cute stripes out there. Try this one from Madewell for under $20!

Shorter length jackets are a mandatory component of the utility trend no matter the fabric. I suggest complementing the cotton twill bottoms with a leather, faux leather or denim jacket. A denim shirt would also look great! My pre-loved Veronica Beard leather jacket has been updated this season from tortoise buttons to gold.

Cropped Jacket Options

And of course there’s the Levi ex boyfriend denim trucker jacket. The best part is how loose and oversized it is… just like your boyfriend’s!  My Faherty Cloud Baseball tee is so soft. It has become a closet staple! Here I’ve added platform cork sandals as an alternative to sneakers. Mine are vintage Chanel from my closet but this is a big trend this season at all price points. I’ll be doing a blog post highlighting more of this look very soon.
