Why Visit Roger’s Garden?
If you have never been to Roger’s Garden in Newport Beach, California, you are in for a very special day. Even if you have visited Roger’s Garden in the past, spring is the perfect time to return. You may think that it’s just a nursery, but let me tell you, it is one of the most beautiful places in Southern California. It’s definitely much more than simply a nursery. Let’s start with The Gallery…
The Gallery
If you are searching for the perfect gift or looking for unique decor, The Gallery at Roger’s Garden will not disappoint. It is so much more than a typical “gift shop”; it is a beautifully curated space that features unique products that you will probably not find anywhere else. What exactly does the store offer? Let me give a very brief rundown: Bath & Body, Tabletop & Barware, Home Decor, Culinary Arts, Baby Gifts and so much more. The product is rotated depending on the season. Currently everything speaks to spring; however when fall rolls around, there is a spectacular Halloween Boutique and, probably the most famous, is the extraordinary holiday decor. Pictures will not do it justice but let me show just a few…
Roger’s Garden Nursery
Roger’s Garden opened in 1965 as a garden center in Costa Mesa, Ca. It was purchased in 1970 by Gavin Herbert and moved to its current location. The garden has always channeled creativity. As an example, it created signature hanging moss bowls in 1980, focused on California Friendly vegetation in 2007 and has continuously been one step ahead of gardening trends. Clearly the focus began as a garden center so the grounds are stunning and represent every possible variety of vegetation. From roses, to succulents, herbs, vegetables, fruit trees and anything else imaginable, you will find them all represented in the garden. At over seven acres, there is plenty of room to roam. Certainly you will find unique varieties, but you may also find the garden is a bit expensive. But if you are searching for healthy, interesting and hard to find plants, Roger’s Garden will not disappoint. And even if you just want to admire the beauty of the garden, it is certainly worth the trip. A few photos of the nursery follow.
Events
There is always something going on at Roger’s Garden. Currently there is a Pepper Mania event (where you can find every imaginable variety of pepper) or the Herb Festival which is coming in May. If you are looking for Mother’s Day gifts, there is also a Mother’s Day Boutique. But if none of those peek your interest, stay tuned as there is always something happening. And you shouldn’t miss the Halloween Boutique which opens on August 30th followed by the Christmas Confections Boutique which opens Ocober 4th. Make to put at least one of these events on your calendar. You will be delighted!!
The Farmhouse
If you are visiting Roger’s Garden, you must make reservations at The Farmhouse, a farm to table restaurant opened in 2016. A beautiful rustic interior that is partially open air, it is open for lunch and dinner. It is quite a difficult reservation to secure (especially if you are visiting during one of the popular events) so I suggest you plan your visit well in advance. My friends and I had a fabulous lunch during our visit. The menu changes frequently so none of the dishes we enjoyed are currently on the menu. But I will show the pics as it will give you an idea of how delectable the food at The Farmhouse is.
Hopefully I have convinced you to take a trip to Newport Beach to visit Roger’s Garden. Even if you have visited previously, there are always new exhibits to explore, beautiful floral presentations, interesting things to buy and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Plus it’s free although I doubt you will leave without making a purchase or two. And if you are visiting Orange County, California, it is a must see. Enjoy!!
