The Little Black Dress

Happy Thursday! It sounds crazy but we’re still recovering from a hectic but wonderful long weekend. And happily it’s almost the weekend again!

I’m quite certain black dresses are a staple in everyone’s closet! This post highlights a few different looks that we like: the prototypical classic black dress, flowy ruffles with an edgy vibe and casual knits.

This stretchy cotton knit tank dress from Madewell is super flattering with a square neck and empire waist. The midi length with side slits looks great with a metallic gold heel or wedge sandal. Throw on a cropped cardigan with a gold bag and you’re good to go! A neutral, black or pop color in a shoe and bag also makes this look.

My tiered ruffled midi dress has a feminine yet edgy vibe. The cap sleeve gives my arms a bit of coverage. The adjustable waist is very comfortable and I love the slit front for an unexpected detail. Wear it with sandals for brunch or heels for date night. I always love a black sandal or slide and it’s fun to pop with a colored handbag.

For an edgy date night look I added a cropped black leather moto jacket to complement the dress

For a sporty look Wendy is wearing a sleeveless knit swing dress from Norma Kamali. It can work with black sneakers or your favorite sandal. Wendy’s black suede sneaker happens to be on sale from Vince. For a layering piece just add a classic lightweight cardigan!

My sleeveless mock neck knit dress from Michael Stars couldn’t be more comfy. I wear it with sneakers, sandals or boots depending on my mood. These days I’m obsessed with sneakers and wear them with almost everything, especially now that I’m working on my feet all day! These gold nike air max sneaks work well with black.

Hope this post gives you a few ideas for styling your little black dresses!

XO,

Harriet
