Discovering Punta de Mita Mexico

If you're dreaming of a tropical getaway, Punta de Mita is the perfect destination. Located on the Pacific coast of Mexico, this stunning location offers pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a range of activities for all ages. Fortunately for my boyfriend Rick and me, his son decided Punta de Mita was the perfect location for his destination wedding. So I will definitely share some of the amazing wedding moments; however, let me also give you an overview of the stunning Punta de Mita.

W Hotel Punta de Mita

One of the top places to stay in Punta de Mita is the W Hotel. This luxurious resort offers stunning ocean views, private beach access, and a range of amenities to make your stay unforgettable. Relax in the infinity pool, indulge in a spa treatment, or dine at one of the on-site restaurants. The W Hotel Punta de Mita is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy all that this tropical paradise has to offer.

Needless to say, sunning poolside is a highlight at the W. As you can tell by the photo, the pool space is stunning. What’s better than champagne while working on your tan!

You never need to give up your pool lounge to find great food and cocktails. Try Chevycheria, a fun casual restaurant right behind the pool area. Try the ceviche with a Bloody Mary; what could be more perfect. And if that isn’t enough, Veuve Clicquot is a sponsor at the W. Look for the Veuve parties!

Weber Wedding at the W Hotel

I just couldn’t resist showing a few pics from the spectacular wedding. Above left is Rick’s family; I love this photo of all of the members of his wonderful family As you can probably tell by the picture above, Rick and I were so happy to be at the wedding of his son and beautiful daughter-in-law. A glimpse the guests at the reception below left.

Where to Stay in Punta de Mita

While the W is the top choice for many travelers, there are so many other hotels to consider when visiting Punta de Mita. Just across the main road lies Punta Mita, a privately owned peninsula that houses two of the most luxurious hotels: the Four Seasons Resort and the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort. If you are looking for resorts that are self contained with golf, beaches, great restaurants and every amenity imaginable, either of these would work perfectly. Be aware. They are both pricey but are full-on luxury.

Looking for a boutique luxury resort that is still 5 star but not as well known? Try the Imanta Resort located at the North End. Or if you are thinking about rustic, authentic and much less expensive, you can try La Quinta del Sol in an historic village. No matter which accomodations you choose, you will fall in love with Punta de Mita.

Where to Dine in Punta de Mita

Punta de Mita is a food lover’s paradise, with a wide range of delicious local cuisine to try. Seafood is a must-try, with fresh catches of the day served up in many restaurants. Be sure to try the ceviche, a popular dish made with raw fish marinated in citrus juices and spices. And don’t forget to try the tequila, a staple drink in the region. Many restaurants offer tequila tastings, where you can sample different varieties and learn about the history and production of this iconic Mexican spirit. Since most of our time was spent at the hotel, we wanted to begin our restaurant experiences at Spice Market. The beautiful setting is inspired by Southeast Asia as is the cuisine. An excellent choice if you are staying at the W.

Beautiful space located in the W Hotel. Food inspired by Viet Nam, Thailand and Malaysia

We were able to get away from the hotel and did get to try several restaurants. The family dinner was at Mina. Located right at the sand, Mina enjoys spectacular ocean views. The food is decidedly Mexican, there is a great local wine selection and of course, tequila!

A lovely restaurant located right on the beach with stunning views and upscale Mexican cuisine. Great Margaritas!

Don’t be fooled by the location of Hector’s Kitchen. It is located in the village of Punta de Mita in a rather unassuming space. But once you are seated and open the menu, you will realize that you are in for a treat. Chef Hector Layla uses local ingredients to create some of the best and most innovative dishes in Punta de Mita. Be prepared for cuisine that looks as good as it tastes, amazing service and a welcoming vibe.

Local ingredients, contemporary cuisine, beautiful presentation make this restaurant a must!

Other restaurants of note that you certainly want to consider are Bahia by Richard Sandoval in the Four Seasons Resort, Carolina located at the St. Regis Resort, Tuna Blanca or Punta Mercedes. Each scores close to 5 stars and get amazing reviews!

What Else to Do in Punta de Mita

The wedding was obviously the primary reason for visiting Punta de Mita so unfortunately we didn’t have time to experience everything this beautiful location has to offer. Part of the pre-wedding festivities included a boat tour which I would highly recommend. Every water sport imaginable is available: snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing and stand up paddle boarding. The beaches are pristine so simply sunning or taking a walk along the ocean may be enough exercise for you! Or if you are very adventuresome and have a few extra days, take a trip to Sayulita. It’s a quaint village about 45 minutes away that is famous for the amazing surf.

But no matter what you are looking for in a Mexico vacation, you are certain to find it in Punta de Mita!

XO,

Harriet
