What to Wear to a Resort Wedding

Hi Everyone,

Well it’s another crazy week! There’s so much holiday stuff to do before I leave for Mexico next week. My boyfriend’s son and fiance are having their destination wedding at a beautiful resort in Punta Mita, located outside of Puerto Vallarta. We’ve been looking forward to going since they became engaged over a year ago, but now that it’s here, it’s also crunch time to get everything done before we go! I want to be able to enjoy every moment once we get there!

Wendy has a few mini trips planned but right now she’s sick with a bad cold. Staying healthy is another challenge during the holidays when we all tend to get run down.

It’s appropriate for me to write about resort wedding dresses since I’ve been madly searching for one or two! I have my cocktail dress for the actual wedding which I’ll be blogging about in a future post where I talk about fancier wedding guest attire. I waited too long to look for a dress for the Welcome Dinner on the beach, thinking I’d find a good selection of marked down late summer dresses. Buying online is a challenge when you want to try on multiple styles before deciding. Actually I would have been happy to find one in a store, but no such luck!

When I first tried this Ulla Johnson ruffled cotton dress, I wasn’t sure if it was too much of a dress for me. I’m generally more understated but there is something about this style! I love the asymmetric tiered styling and ruffle trim. I have very small shoulders so the one shoulder neckline is a bit challenging, but nothing a good tailor can’t handle!. I love the colors and the fact that’s all cotton…perfect for a beach event! I’ll accessorize with bohemian inspired earrings and nude sandals.

I think this Ulla Johnson soft printed dress is such a pretty feminine piece. With the empire waist and flowing skirt, I feel like a boho princess! The fabric is sheer and airy, giving it that beachy vibe. The same print also comes in black but seems to be almost sold out. Needless to say I am a huge fan of Ulla. Her pricing is high but I found both of these dresses ranging from 50-75% off during Black Friday. I would accessorize with a sheer cardigan, gold accessories and nude or gold sandals.

In the end, I decided to go with the Ruffled Cotton dress. I think it will be perfect for a casual Welcome Party.

If Ulla Johnson isn’t your style, I have also shown some other options that would also be great for a destination beach wedding.
