The Las Vegas Sphere Plus U2: An Unbelievable Experience

Experiencing a U2 concert at the Sphere was an unbelievable experience. While U2 was great, the Sphere steals the show. It's a technological marvel. I have never witnessed anything like it. Opened in October of 2023 and costing $2.3 billion, it is the largest spherical structure in the world. It holds 20,000 people (18,000 seats). Without question, it is the most impressive performance space that you have ever experienced. U2 was the opening band at the Sphere but there is so much more to do and see (more on that later)

U2 plays a little over two hours. They played their album Achtung Baby and most of their hits. Bono also sang bits from Elvis, Frank Sinatra and the Beatles. The surrounding graphics put you in the midst of the ocean, vintage Las Vegas, modern Las Vegas, and so much more. I am an avid U2 fan and absolutely loved their performance. Rick likes them and also loved the performance.

We sat in section 300 which provided optimal viewing as the graphics were constantly moving upward. The floor seats provided a better view of the stage but made it necessary to keep looking upward to follow the show. Even the band was portrayed on the Sphere walls directly in front of us.

My only words of caution are for those with a fear of heights and a problem processing sensory stimulation. It is definitely a sensory overload! Rick and I managed to overcome the initial feeling of lightheadedness once we acclimated. If you have a propensity for dizziness I would suggest floor seats or no higher than section 200.

Aura Interactive Robot

Darren Aronofsky film “Postcards From Earth”

The U2 Experience is no longer at the Sphere but there is a new line up coming. Phish and the Dead Experience are next in line. Or if you are not interested in a concert, there is still so much to experience at the Sphere. The interior is amazing, with Aura being a highlight. You can also take in the Darren Aronofsky film, “Postcard from Earth.” The Sphere is attached to the Venetian Expo Center so if you stay at the hotel, you can simply walk over. We didn’t but it was easy to get an Uber.

As is always the case, there have been some complaints about the Sphere. First is that it is expensive. But honestly, Las Vegas can be expensive. We chose to have drinks at The Venetian beforehand but they were the same price as the drinks at the Sphere. The U2 concert was a splurge but it was so worth it. I previously mentioned that the Sphere might be challenging for some people just due to the sensory experience. But we had an absolutely amazing time.
