New York City Holiday Windows
New York City is one of my favorite places in the world. Although I have been there more times than I can count, I had never travelled during December. There are so many reasons to visit NYC: the restaurants, the shopping, the sights and the history. But the real reason I wanted to go during the holidays was to see the windows. I had always heard that they were so special and they certainly did not disappoint. I wish my pics were better but at least I can share some of the amazing holiday windows with you.
Bergdorf Goodman Windows
If you have been to Bergdorf’s you know that there are stores on both sides of Fifth Avenue: Men’s and Women’s. The Men’s windows, although interesting, were not my favorite so I have shown only one (there was a Yeti theme which I didn’t exactly understand..sorry!) The windows on the Women’s side were spectacular: lots of sparkle and shine!
Saks Fifth Avenue Windows
Probably the most spectacular holiday display is The Carousel of Dreams, a collaboration of Dior and Saks. The windows, all created in miniature, depict Monsieur Dior’s trip from Paris to Los Angeles in 1946. It was nearly impossible to shoot photos due to the crowds so I show some pics I pulled. I did, however, shoot the video shown below. It is on the side of the 10 story Saks store. The Facade includes signs of the zodiac as well as Dior house codes. Although it is stunning in both day and night, it really comes alive during the evening presentation. It plays every 10 minutes and is absolutely magical.
Bloomingdales Windows
Bloomingdales collaborated with Warner Bros to create scenes from the upcoming Wonka film. All of the Lexington Street windows paid homage to the film. I am just showing a couple of favorites.
A Variety of Noteworthy Holiday Windows
Although I clearly couldn’t take in every holiday window in NYC and I am sure I missed some great ones, below is a compilation of some others to enjoy.
Rockefeller Center Tree
OK, it’s not a window but you can’t visit New York and miss the tree at Rockefeller Center. Sadly this was not an original idea so there were throngs of people trying to get a photo. Mine came out a bit blurry but you get the idea. I didn’t want you to think I wasn’t there! But just to give you a true idea of the splendor, I added the professional shot.
I have wanted to go to New York during the holidays for as long as I can remember. When something has been on a bucket list that long, the fear is that it will disappoint. Trust me…it did not. It was crowded and expensive but so worth it. I hope this little glimpse of holiday in NYC will motivate you to go.
